Who strangled Jimmy Lyons at the Pink Pony?

The world-class Port Huron to Mackinac sailboat race has just finished at Mackinac Island. As soon as the boats dock, the sailors head for the legendary Pink Pony, including Jimmy Lyons and his crew. But the night takes a grisly turn. Jimmy is found dead the next morning in the bar, strangled by a string of Christmas tree lights.

Murdo Halverson, Jimmy's former partner and one of the crew, is arrested for the murder. But each of the crew, had a reason to kill him. As did his wife, Jane.

Burr Lafayette, recently divorced and the deposed head of the litigation department of a major Detroit law firm, is recruited to defend Murdo. A man at loose ends, Burr is a brilliant but troubled lawyer. He prefers boats over courtrooms, dogs over clients, and martinis over just about everything else.

He’s also not a criminal lawyer, but he takes the case because he’s nearly bankrupt, and he desperately needs the money. The prosecutor has damning evidence and witnesses that make Murdo look guilty. Unless Burr can find a suspect, Murdo is going to be convicted of first-degree murder.

Fun mystery, especially if you are from or familiar with Michigan! The virtual voice narration makes it hard to listen to, with the same word being pronounced differently, boring monotone and amazing mispronunciations like Heelo-va (hell of a). A talented narrator makes or breaks an audiobook, skip this one and read it instead!

Story is fun, virtual voice narration is awful!

Although the story was an interesting courtroom whodunnit, the virtual narration was not successful for me. It was difficult to understand which characters were talking, or distinguish between when the author was describing a character’s inner thoughts or their dialogue. At certain parts of the narration, the emphasis of a phrase, or a sentence was off during important dramatic or comedic scenes, making it hard to connect to the author’s tone or the mood he was trying to create in the story. I would recommend reading the printed text and avoiding this audio version.

Good story, but poor AI narration

This is a great story. But the narration was not very good at all. Emphasis and pronunciation wasn’t correct or consistent.

Good story. Narration not so much

I did not the the virtual voice at all. There was no emotion nor voice inflection which made the story confusing to listen to. I had to replay numerous parts. I will not listen to anymore audios with virtual voice.

Mackinaw and the Pink Pony as I was just there
