Linear and progressive views of history have dominated the popular imagination for the past seventy years in a worldview wedded to the inexorable rise of globalization and GDP growth at any cost. However, the end of the Cold War failed to produce the end of history as hoped, a fact brought home to many by Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

The Prophets of Doom explores eleven thinkers who not only dared to contradict the dominant linear and progressive view of history, but also predicted many of the political and social maladies through which we are living.

amazing overview of these thinkers and their similarities, it is a great springboard for getting into any of these thinkers as well as the concept of cyclical history.

Great book!

Insightful look into the cyclical version of history. Narration is great, definitely worth listening to.

Male doomed thinking.

All about male thinking. Does all philosophy come from the male mind only? Civilization includes females and males. Intellects, warriors, merchants rise and fall in any given culture is typical of his - story. nothing about her - story or thinking. I find these males are long winded and complicate simple ideas.

Would rather have AA read it

Excellent review of societal collapse theories. Interesting comparison to the chaos of today. The more things change, the more they remain the same. Great f/u to AA (Academic Agent on YouTube) = Neema Parvini's Populist Delusion. Highly recommended.

A Well Structured and Succinctly Written history of Illiberal Historical analysis

I’ll keep this short. I leave a 5 star review across the board because I wish to do my small part are giving this author more exposure. I have been interested in Spengler since I was introduced to Man and Technics in university. Since then I had broadened my knowledge base of “Big History”, Cyclical History, ethnic studies and Civilizational studies through a number of authors, many listed in this book.
I can say that this was an enjoyable book to listen to and ties together these great thinkers very well. It’s THE place for anyone with an interest in these matters should begin and use it as a jumping off point for further studies.
