Mid 1980s, LA and Prayer, MT: Kerry gave up her position in a posh private school for girls because she had always wanted to work as a missionary in Africa. She married a cop with the LAPD who wanted the same thing. But when he got shot, he also got hooked on opiates, and mumbled the truth: He didn't want to go to Africa. She didn't want him to stay in LA, where it was easy to feed his drug habit. They compromised, and found positions in a small town in rural Montana, a place place to heal, called Prayer. But there was more than either bargained for: a religious farm colony and a small, but secretive, military base that was built near the end of the World War. Guarding the German-speakers, given what happened before? Maybe, but what's with all those scientists who came after the war was won? For such a small place, Prayer has a lot of secrets.

In Shadow: The dimension or space—also known as the Aether—where souls, which are meant to crossover into the Light, might linger awhile instead, because they cannot pass—or will not go. Some might call them ghosts, but this is not accurate, though a Soul In Shadow is likely dead to the world. More akin to what is known as a coma, but the body might not be intact. In fact, it might already be disposed of, leaving the Soul with few alternatives: haunt, possess, fade in remembrance.
Sentinel: Earthbound spirit who may understand those in Shadow, even speak with them via whispered tongues or thoughts, but whose role is mainly protector of those who are being affected.
