A Roman soldier, Marcellus, wins Christ's robe as a gambling prize. He then sets forth on a quest to find the truth about the Nazarene's robe, a quest that reaches to the very roots and heart of Christianity. Set against the vividly drawn background of ancient Rome, this is a timeless story of adventure, faith, and romance, a tale of spiritual longing and ultimate redemption.©1942 Lloyd C. After listening to over 50 audio books, this is by far the best one yet, the narrator makes the voice of each character distinct and come to life. The book keeps moving at a very good pace and keeps you on the edge of your seat, while adding enough color to make you feel each scene. You won't want it to end. My mother read this book back in high school in the early 60's and said it was always one of her favorites. Can't believe I never read it before. The author must have done his homework well, to have colored the novel as accurately as he did. You will not be disapointed with this one. I saw the movie many years ago and it was good. But, they couldn't make a 20+ hour movie, so of course you miss most of the story.

I downloaded this book because it was on sale and I remembered that I had heard the title as a girl. It was a little hard to get started, especially with many strange names to remember, but it soon grabbed my attention and then my heart. It truly is a classic. I have been recommending it to everyone since I listened to it! It will be one of those books I remember for the rest of my life. I loved the British narrator. It was worth every minute, and I was sad when it ended.

A Beautiful Classic

This is a classic that will endure for many future generations. Beautifully written and a story that keeps you in suspense through the entire book. The references to Jesus Christ's mission and gospel are surprisingly accurate.

One of the Best

I wish there were more books like this. It was such a great feeling to put myself into a story at the time of Christ and get a sense of what the people at that time experienced and may have been going through. Truly a remarkable book to evoke the feelings and faith this did. It's one of the few books that makes me want to be a better Christian.

Fantastic book

Usually, I don’t care for religious books of fiction. However, I found this book to be deeply moving. The historical accuracy of life in the Roman Empire brought the secular facts of the early Christian Church alive.
The narrator was excellent. My only complaint was that there were no pauses between scenes and settings, making it difficult to realize when the time frame had jumped to a different setting.
I don’t often rate a book a 5, but this book is deserving of the designation. I highly recommend.
