In the pleasant town of Rose, Kansas, a breathtaking mansion stands alone on a windswept prairie. Its presence mystifies the locals almost as much as the three elusive individuals that live within its marble walls. They are known as the Rose Flock, and the rumors about them range from extraordinary to disturbing.

Alexis Lunden, a college student working as a waitress, has heard every rumor about the Flock and is shocked when the group’s ringleader, the handsome and filthy rich, Charlie Roanoke, begins paying her regular visits at the restaurant. Blinded by infatuation, Alexis allows herself to be lured into his world of unimaginable extravagance. As their friendship blossoms, she must regularly suppress the feeling that this new relationship is too good to be true. It isn’t until she finds herself in the basement of an ancient church staring down at a glowing pool of water when she realizes that Charlie has had a plan for her all along. Despite it all, she steps into the pool. Her life as she knows it is now over.

On another earth, somewhere across the vast universe, a girl steps from a glowing pool beneath a towering willow tree. This coming was foretold fifty thousand years ago.

This book is an intriguing book to listen to, found this to be a very original story line, tying in fantasy, Greek culture, religion and modern day living. There is a bit of set up to meet all the figures however they each have a purpose with time. they introduction to the members of the Rose Flock and how they get to be who they are is fascinating. while the story of the main character, Alexis, ties in nicely. the out lying character has a deep development that is crucial to the story as it progresses into book 2. They lead great into the second book, which only gets better!

there is a feeling of good and evil during the set up that has your rooting for (or hoping) things work out for the best but also an unpredictability that keeps you reading (listening) to see what happens next. Very little down time with a great introduction to each scene with engaging detail.

a very original storyline that keeps you guessing and reading!

Give this book time, it is so worth it. Though the first half is not jam-packed with action, Lucant and Alexis's stories were both interesting and kept me engaged. The author did a great job of continuously revealing big surprises while keeping other mysteries on the horizon leaving the reader in ongoing suspense. Part 1, A Diamond in the Rough, provided an excellent foundation for the darker and scarier, Part 2, The Oblivion Oracle. Christopher Cain was spot-on with his description of breathtaking dreamscapes and other worlds. The story wrapped up nicely with most things tied together by the end. I still have a few questions that I assume will be answered in the sequel.
Also, huge props to the narrator, Jessica Taige. As someone who has dabbled in audiobook narration, I appreciate how smooth and relaxed she was all the while doing accents and even singing! The entire experience of The Rose Flock was extremely enjoyable. Now, on to book two!

I really enjoyed Christopher Cain’s first book in the series. The way he builds the mystery had me hooked from the start. The characters felt real, and I found myself invested in their journeys. There were plenty of twists that kept me guessing, and I loved how the story unfolded. It left me wanting more and definitely excited to dive into the next book!

Extremely Creative, Mysterious, Comprehensive, Dangerous.

I loved how the author was able to seamlessly and creatively intertwine multiple storylines sit within different eras and worlds. An incredibly creative storyline. I can’t wait to see this in theaters - it has that feel to it. Better yet, if this doesn’t make it to theaters, it would be a travesty.

Creative and Detailed Storyline - Can’t wait to read book 2
