When the United States declared war against Spain in 1898, Theodore Roosevelt resigned his post as Assistant Secretary of the Navy and was commissioned Lieutenant Colonel of the First United States Volunteer Cavalry - dubbed by an adoring public as "the Rough Riders." It was his recruitment and leadership of this unorthodox military unit that made "Teddy" a household name - and eventually president. The Rough Riders is Roosevelt's firsthand account of his adventures.Public Domain (P)1993 Recorded Books Americas History & Theory Military Political Science Politics & Government Wars & Conflicts Veteran War

The narrator is above average.
This book well mirrors many of the live action accounts and other books currently being written by US Navy SEALs.

The politician shines through. This is what Teddy wanted us to believe about his stoic philosophy and "glorious" experiences in the war. Heroic in war, yes, but the spin is definitely late 1800s. Too much so.

I am a big TR fan book was quite interesting. Some of the weapons used were cutting edge (Spanish) or near the end of their technological lives (USA).
