King Jourdan Audric Emile Renaud of Aubert was obligated to marry. His marriage had been arranged between him and the princess from a neighboring country many years ago when he was but a child. Now that his father was dead and he was king, his duty to marry and provide heirs was being pressed upon him. The greatest problem, other than the fact that King Renaud wanted no part of marriage, was that he knew he was not capable of love. His so-called mother never loved him, and he had no idea what love was, much less how to love. The last thing he wanted was a loveless marriage, but he had no choice. Could he ever love?

Stormy Allan was a waitress at the local Keithville, Louisiana tavern known as Hoppy’s. Stormy had secrets. She had escaped the life that had been chosen for her, but after seeing the death of the King of Aubert and the coronation to follow, Stormy knew her time was running out. The last thing she wanted was to return to her home country of Alarie to marry her unknown fiancé which had been arranged when she was young. However, upon meeting her chosen groom, she began to think that being married could have definite advantages. It was not until her fiancé revealed that this marriage was an arrangement and nothing more that she began to question whether she had made the right decision.
