The small lakeside town of Wolfhollow, New Hampshire is bustling with Fourth of July tourists. The week-long holiday festivities are interrupted when a valuable letter from the Revolutionary War is stolen from the town museum. Fourteen-year-old Leah Bartlett and her two siblings, eleven-year-old Avery and nine-year-old Grayson, jump in to solve this summer mystery. The local newspaper nicknamed the Bartlett children the Rucksack Kids for the canvas backpacks they each carry. The rucksack contents, like the Bartlett childrens different personalities, contain a variety of tools and gadgets they use to help solve mysteries. The Bartletts research the history of the stolen letter, and discover a mysterious spy network General George Washington used during the Revolutionary War. The Rucksack Kids must discover who would be motivated to steal the document before the holiday ends, and all the suspects leave Wolfhollow.

This is a wonderful story for children and adults. The narration was clear and fun to listen to. This audiobook would be a great listen on a family road trip to New Hampshire! The book touches on facts from the American Revolution and would be a fun complement to history curriculum for students. One scene of the main characters encountering a thief with a gun might be best for older elementary/middle school children but it was written sensitively and appropriately. The story contains lessons about friendship, family, and virtues such as forgiveness that could lead to meaningful conversations as a family. I look forward for to listening to the rest of the series!
