Meet Tannie Maria - recipe writer turned crime fighter - and before she has time to take her Venus Chocolate Cake out of the oven, our glorious heroine finds herself embroiled in another mystery. In this wonderful sequel to Recipes for Love and Murder, Slimkat the bushman finds his life under threat and Tannie Maria is determined to find out who wants to kill him. But her new boyfriend, Detective Lieutenant Henk Kannemeyer, is keen to keep Tannie out of danger.

And while new love is sweet, Tannie's pretty sure Henk's hiding something, so she has mysteries of her own solve. Blending a perfect whodunnit with lovable characters, Sally Andrew really does have the perfect recipe for a crime series.

A fun mystery with great characters. I enjoyed the character development, and the author’s light touch with heavy subjects.

At first the narrator’s accent was challenging to my American ears, used to flatter vowels. As I got into the story and became more comfortable with the narration, though, I really appreciated her nuance.

A Great Listen!

I love these novels. The characters have depth and their lives tell a great story. The mystery has twists and turns. I always like a story with a redemption theme.

Outstanding

A fun second installment of the Tannie Maria books. A nice vacation read. I was worried at the beginning that there was going to be too much sex scene stuff, since it starts out with the first date where they were planning to spend the night together, but thankfully there wasn’t. The reader is fantastic. While she couldn’t quite convincingly manage a southern American accent for one of the characters in the last book, that wasn’t an issue in this one. Her voices and the lovely South African accent are a big draw, and make me really glad I got the audible version instead of the physical book. She perfectly embodies Tannie Maria’s personality. My only two complaints are that audible doesn’t have the author’s next two books available yet (Death on the Limpopo and the Milk Tart Murders), and that there isn’t a printout available for the recipes at the end of the book. While fun to listen to as an avid cook, it’s a bit of a pain if you actually want to make them (which I do).

Fun, wish there was a printout of the recipes

This is the second book in the series I've listened to, and I really enjoyed the South African flavor. The narrator truly brings the book to life. I just wish more books in the series were available on Audible.

Standout -delivers from the typical murder genre
