Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch established a reputation as a literary critic and editor, and was also a successful novelist. Yet Quiller-Couch was also interested in the unseen and unknown, and this prompted him to turn his hand, time and again, to write supernatural stories.

The Seventh Man is considered one of the best of these stories. Six men are shipwreaked in the frozen North and about to give up hope when one of them spots a mysterious seventh man, one that the others cannot see.

Editorial reviews

Walter Covell performs Arthur Quiller-Couch's The Seventh Man with grumbling, sonorous intonation. Listeners will detect the pleasure he takes in his performance of the different characters, including a Russian, an Irishmen, and an invisible man…. Yes, "The Seventh Man" is a mysterious short story about six shipwrecked men and the appearance of a seventh man - only this seventh cannot be seen by everyone. Lovers of the supernatural will enjoy this unique adventure story, handsomely written and subtly dramatic.
