I love this book, though some parts of it were a bit scary. And I just love all

Listened to this a few years ago (editing review on March 16, 2026) and loved it. Now, at 15, STILL adore this book and this whole series + spinoffs. You’d think it’d feel childish, or be unenjoyable for older kids/adults, but I actually just re-listened to all the books, and I still really enjoyed it. The writing style is incredible, the characters and their relationships and feelings are really complex and interesting, ESPECIALLY for kids (which they are in book 1). While there are a few things I would consider cliche (“super awesome magic school!!!”, evil stepmom, etc etc..), it’s still an incredible book and it just gets better and better the more of the series you read. Glen Mcready is an excellent narrator as-well, but don’t get too used to him because this series swaps narrators book 4-6 - narrated by the author! She has a very beautiful voice but I personally prefer Glen’s. Highly, HIGHLY recommended for all ages by an experienced listener! That’s it peeps. 🥹✌️

It's well written with an interesting setting and characters I remember. The main character LOVES his shapeshifting as much as I imagine I would, and that brings a smile to my face every time it comes up in the story. The "Magical School" setting is a little cliche and familiar, but the story is overal recommended by me for supernatural and transformation adventure fans. Already purchased second entry.
