Life has not been kind to Georgette. Growing up with an alcoholic father and an enabling mother, she clings to the loving memory of a childhood trip to Martha's Vineyard to help see her through the bad times; and now, as an adult, she returns to the island to start her life over. Soon she becomes the private nurse for a prize-winning novelist. As the two become friends, he opens her mind to new possibilities.

But everything changes when she encounters the mysterious Dock. Georgette isn't quite sure about him but finds him irresistible. She quickly loses herself in her relationship despite the inherent dangers that come with him. Torn between her own future or spiraling into a life she tried so hard to leave behind, Georgette must make her most important decision ever.

Sometimes escaping the past isn't as easy as it appears.

The Silence in the Sound is the provocative debut novel by Dianne C. Braley, detailing the devastating effects of growing up with addiction.

The main character was multi dimensional, and very likable, but as a nurse, she was in denial about people close to her, which made the narrative ring not quite true. I enjoyed the interactions with a thinly veiled, literary character.

The locale was fun

I enjoyed listening to the story with all the trials and tribulations, triumphs and losses of the island based story. I wasn’t enamored of the narrator, but it was only minor detraction from the story itself.

Intricate island based book

I never write reviews but I have to share my experience with this. This book came recommended to me and I had planned to listen to it over the course of a week or so. However I started listening and just could not stop. It drew me in with its beautiful flowing ease and I found myself thinking about the characters even after I stopped listening. A compelling story.. an emotional and honest tribute of love and loss dealing with the complex world of addiction. To say that this drew me in and affected me is an understatement. Thank you to this very talented author Dianne C. Braley, I cannot wait to delve into more of her incredible writing. Wow!!!
