But this optimism must be grounded in clear-eyed recognition of the challenges we face and sustained commitment to addressing them. Neither naive techno-optimism that ignores risks nor fatalistic pessimism that assumes bad outcomes are inevitable serves us well. What we need is the determination to work toward the best possible outcomes while preparing for and preventing the worst.
