This book has some good police work in it. Lux Bern is a young police detective and gets the chance to work with an icon in her eyes. She (Lux) is dealing with some things in her past. I love this style of police Procedural, Detective Mystery style of book. I used to stayed away from missing kids and E.T.C. style of books BUT now I love these because of the Detective work that's done in them. Jess Trepanier does a great job narrating this book. I was given this book for free from audiobook boom and asked to leave an unbiased review for the author and narrator. I will caveat my comments by saying I am big on attention to detail, authenticity if possible and action in an action book I thought this book started out really slow an hour in and I still don’t know what the premise of the story is “Silent Child”. It was very slow and boring in my opinion. If your going to write about police activity and you have not been a police officer and quote facts make sure you research the subject – police work and that your facts are correct. Drug dealers always sell to kids, that’s they how they get them. If there’s a report of a missing child, it is acted upon immediately and takes preference over all other matters. A detective would not have just brushed off the report even if there are a lot of people missing due to a storm. 3 hours in you finally get an explanation of “the event” that caused Lux to pull away from actual police work. “it was the 3rd deadliest school shooting in the Nation’s history” yet 2 officers enter the school, 1 being a rookie and all the officers split up. That is not how an active shooter situation is handled by any police department understaffed or not. A cop watches a drug deal and picks up a known addict, finds pills on her and doesn’t apprehend her, but instead takes her to her (the cops) home after the addict allegedly vandalized the cops home, come on. There are entirely too many “investigative” mistakes in this story for me to enjoy it. The narrator is pretty good, she has a pleasant voice and uses inflections but needs to work on the voice changes for different characters.
