I received this book on my 10th birthday in 1980 from my brother’s godfather and my father’s best friend, and I still have it. I was worried that as a devout Christian I might not enjoy it as much as a 53-year-old as I did then, but I hope it’s not blasphemy to say I love it still. It was neat to hear the British ending, too, although I’m glad to be an American – ha ha. This book has aged beautifully.

This is my all time favorite story since my teacher read it out loud to us in the 4th grade!!

I’m so excited to have found this book on here! Still an awesome story to this day. I’ve made all my kids read it growing up 😂

Favorite childhood story

This was my favorite book growing up, and it was still very enjoyable even as an adult.

Just as good as it was almost 50 years ago!!!!

Such clever and imaginative characters and plot make it a real page turner! I like its respect for kids’ intelligence too.

Wonderful "Modern" fairy tale 🧚‍♀️

Unique story with plot twists and turns. Narration is nicely done and easy to listen to.
