Transported through time to the dank streets of Victorian London, Alex Locke seeks to unravel the mysteries of the Obsidian Heart, the enigmatic object to which his fate is inextricably bound.

When a string of grisly murders takes place across the capital, Alex follows a trail that will lead him through the opium dens of Limehouse, into the dark and twisted world of the Society of Blood and ever closer to unlocking the secret of the Heart.

I’m not disappointed but this is an easily forgettable trilogy and I’m only 2/3 of the way through. The introduction of a multiverse is now severely overplayed in all forms of modern fiction and truth be told, unless I missed something in the first two books, there’s no real story. Just a main character traipsing through time in search of an artifact but an artifact with no stated history, point of origin nor any real explanation of any sort of significance other than it’s what the main character is in search of.

I’m hoping the final books ties things together and I’ve a feeling it will, but even so the emptiness of substance of the first two books makes this an easily forget trilogy.

Awesome story by Mark Morris and properly preformed by Ben Onwukwe. I cannot wait to start the 3rd in this series.

I know its not for everyone, but the folks who get it really do. I am having a ball hopping through time and space with Alex Locke trying to puzzle outvthe mystery of the obsidian heart. I can't think of a better way to spend a weekend. Its dark, visceral, complicated. Its just the kind of thing I love.
