In The Starlost, we follow the adventurous trio of Devon, Rachel, and Garth as they embark on an epic quest through this enormous vessel, uncovering secrets, solving mysteries, and racing against time to save their world.
First aired in 1973, this ambitious series offered viewers a glimpse into the fascinating possibilities of multi-generational space travel and the intricacies of human society in a truly unique setting.
The series was created by Harlan Ellison who was a true force of nature in the world of speculative fiction. Disillusioned with the production, which fell far short of his ambitious vision, Ellison removed his name from the credits, opting instead for his infamous pseudonym, “Cordwainer Bird.”
Despite its short run of only 16 episodes and Ellison’s own disavowal, The Starlost has since garnered a small cult following, with some fans appreciating it for its unique premise, big ideas and the potential that peeked through the production challenges.
Now this book takes a look back at this low budget but unique and interesting offering from the pioneering days of Canadian television.
