An Intense, High-Stakes Listen

​CM Adams has done it again. While I initially expected The Survivor to mirror the author’s previous work, After the End, I was pleasantly surprised to find a completely new, immersive world. Narrator Penny Carrington does an exceptional job bringing this story to life; her performance is so atmospheric that it truly makes you feel like a part of that world.
​The story puts you right in the trenches with Emmy and Cole. Cole is a standout character—the way he cares for Emmy adds a layer of genuine heart to an otherwise brutal, gritty landscape. Emmy herself is a tough, compelling protagonist whose resilience makes perfect sense given her background.
​Adams masterfully balances the threat of the infected with the tension of human dynamics, showing that "normal" humans can be just as dangerous as the zombies. I especially loved the pacing of the audio; it starts tight and violent, then expands into a much wider, scarier world that kept me glued to my headphones.
​The plot was engaging, full of surprises, and kept me listening until the very end. If you’re a fan of zombie apocalypse stories with emotional depth and an edgy vibe, this is a fantastic, high-energy listen.

I really appreciate that we aren't left on a huge cliffhanger AND still don't know who to fully trust!
