Elsa, the sheltered daughter of a baron, has been forced to flee her home. When she's given refuge at the royal castle it would seem that help is at hand, but the young king is not an easy man to speak to. In fact, Elsa's not sure what kind of man he is.

Caught up into strange and magical happenings, political intrigues, and romantic conflicts, the glamorous world of the king disintegrates about her, and enemies close in. Elsa wonders who to trust, who to love, and if she will ever make it home again.

I really enjoy an engaging story, with likeable characters, and an old fashion since of honor and goodness. This fairy tale fulfilled all of these. My only complaint is that I now have to reconcile myself to the fact that I can't talk to horses and go live in the mountains. Sigh.

this was a lovely story with a good narrator. The action moves too slow in the middle of the book.

This audible book is a masterpiece full of mystery, a unknown romance , and the fey. A vicious Count who will stop at nothing to get the girl that he wants, a king with a destiny to fullfill and a castle that still to this day has mysteries unsolved.

I loved the start of this book. It felt so original and charming and the main character was really likeable.

The second part was hard to get through. I didn't like her after she lost her memories. She suddenly felt like a bland side character instead of the MC. She spent the rest of the book observing the king and prince. They were bland too, I couldn't connect with them. I no longer felt like this story was really about her and it made it hard for me to care.

I didn't care about the romance either it felt like there were too many option and no one to get excited for her about.

Overall the book was okay the ending was satisfactory enough. I think I just wish the writing had stayed strong all the way through.

Good start then gets tedious.
