Mile upon mile of prairie covered by great buffalo herds; reckless, hard-riding plainsmen, buffalo hunters, Indians, bandits - the whole colorful epoch of the pioneer, in a story which centers around the destruction of the thundering herds of buffalo. In this breathless tale of bravery and battle, of white man's courage and red man's daring, Zane Grey has written one of his finest novels.©1925 Zane Grey (P)2004 Book in Motion Westerns Fiction Genre Fiction

We all know the story of the buffalo’s destruction, and with it the destruction of a culture and people. This was a captivating, wonderful story. Not unlike watching the movie “Titanic”, the underlying sense of foreboding and imminent loss is pervasive—a cloying sadness. I will forever be grateful for the descriptions of buffalo, their power, the stunning stampede. Memory of what will never be, what was wantonly destroyed.
