Now that Linda "Pidge" Lewellen is grown up, she tells Travis McGee, once her girlhood idol, that either she's going crazy or Howie, her affable ex-jock of a husband, is trying to kill her. McGee checks things out, and gives Pidge the all clear. But when Pidge and Howie sail away to kiss and make up, McGee has second thoughts. If only he can get to Pidge before he has time for any more thinking.

I’ve read all of the Travis McGee series and listened to most of it. This is in the top three in my favorites list. Great story! Terrific action in the last several chapters. Even though this is book 15 in the series, this is a great place to start if you are new to JDM and Travis McGee. The narration by Robert Petkoff is fantastic and he carries the action along as I would think JDM intended. It’s a great ride from beginning to end.

One of my favorites by JDM

Many of the plot elements Are standard: girl in danger, Travis investigating a bad guy, etc. enough uniqueness to keep the suspense mounted. Trav’s style of investigation continues to set him apart.

Travis is getting older and mellower

another brilliant entry in a series whose author is sorely missed ..... good to know we can always return to the busted flush and find Travis aboard....

At least he didn't get shot this time! This one was tough on our hero. Very personal involvments and a lot of back-story. As usual the characters are all fullly fleshed out and the overall story was great. But I never thought I'd hear Travis singing the praises of a Pulsar LED digital watche!!! Perhaps the next one will mention what a stupid idea they were.....

Returning to read this decades later it still satisfied and it held some observations about modern life that are trenchant today in 2021

Still very tough to put down
