incredible story!!

i truly got sucked in when i started it! great world building and character arcs!

Fast Paced and Heartfelt!

This had all the action of a major blockbuster without shying away from darker side of conflict! The characters were fleshed out and real, and the cast was diverse and fresh! I’m excited to dive into the rest of the series to see where Arianne and Blackjack’s story goes next!

X-Men meets Fantasy!

Where to start? Blackjack rules! No, not the game but the man himself. His POV chapters were my favorite and I'm very glad that I'll get to see more of him come book 2 which I can't wait for. Ms. Marie crafted an engaging universe full of creative old school fantasy tropes made fresh with a modern twist. There's even some splashes of sci-fi in there. While I usually don't tend to care about main characters... well... usually... this time was different. Arianne was a well crafted character with rich backstory. I enjoyed the romance in the book as well. It was tasteful and not overdone. While many arcs in this book deserve credit I have to say that my favorite was the tournament with Ace. I refuse to give spoilers so read the book to find out. The humor was also well done. I laughed out loud a few times. This book gave me vibes of X-Men, Avatar (Cameron verse) and the princeess bride with a couple parts having some Tron and Star Wars esk vibes. If you. eed a good refreshing read then come on over and give this awesome book a shot. 5 ⭐.

Narration was engaging from a fresh new narrator. Excited to see him home his craft.

Enjoyable overall

This story is somewhat out of the norm for what I read, in terms of writing style. It reads a lot like a YA novel, but covers darker themes and subjects with a little more depth than you would expect from something for teens. It might be the different writing style than what I’m used to, but it took me a little bit longer to get Invested in the story. Once I was more familiar with the style though it became a pretty enjoyable experience. I absolutely love the concept of this universe and am about to start the second book, I’ll be sure to leave a review for that one as well!
