Fourteen-year-old Doreen Green moved from sunny California to the suburbs of New Jersey. She must start at a new school, make new friends, and continue to hide her fluffy tail. Yep, Doreen has the powers of . . . a squirrel!
After failing at several attempts to find her new BFF, Doreen feels lonely and trapped, like a caged animal. Then one day Doreen uses her extraordinary powers to stop a group of troublemakers from causing mischief in the neighborhood, and her whole life changes. Everyone at school is talking about it! Doreen contemplates becoming a full-fledged Super Hero. And thus, Squirrel Girl is born!
She saves cats from trees, keeps the sidewalks clean, and prevents vandalism. All is well until a real-life Super Villain steps out of the shadows and declares Squirrel Girl his archenemy. Can Doreen balance being a teenager and a Super Hero? Or will she go . . . NUTS?

If you never read any of her stuff, this is a good starting point as it is basically a origin story and how she becomes Squirrel Girl. Capturing the spirit of a kid trying to be a superhero versus a villain that is basically a counterpart but also have the same goofy unintentional humor.
I say the only real big conplaint is that it is a kid book, so it is a bit predictable. Plus there was one tiresome long joke that might work when you actually reading the book, but fails when translated to an audio medium.
But overall it was a really fun listen with the narrarator doing a fantastic job.
A fun kid superhero book

Great YA Novel even if you aren't a young adult.

The voice acting is very good and makes Squirrel Girl and Tip especially charming. Story wise, it starts off great for the first third of the book, then drags a bit in the middle (in one chapter she rattles off squirrel names for 10 straight minutes) but pays off very well at the end with lots of fun characters and references along the way.
It does a pretty interesting job of riding the line between the movies and the comics.
Good origin story. Definitely written for kids.
