Brilliant 21st-century tycoon Justin Cord was brought from cryogenic storage into a 24th-century society where people own stock in one another, safeguarding each other's welfare only out of economic self-interest. This is anathema to the defiantly individualistic Cord, who leads the outer edges of the solar system to form a new government and revolt against the core world of Earth and Mars.

Critic reviews

"The Kollin brothers keep the plot moving briskly despite the high proportion of talk to action. Their cerebral style will especially appeal to readers nostalgic for science fiction's early years." ( Publishers Weekly)
"The Kollin brothers’ debut captivates with unforgettable characters and an ingenious vision of the economic future." ( Booklist)

Loved the series

I really like the story and read the books on paper as they were coming out. I listened to the first book here on audible and really enjoyed the story again having not remembered much of it at all. I am really thrown by the narrator in the second book almost to the point that I'm not sure I want to give it a chance. already with Justin and Omar there is almost no difference in inflection or intonation related to the characters and I'm really really worried about the female characters that this guy is going to try to narrate.

Terrible Narration

Why they change narrators on a series, I’ll never know, but they did and it made a lengthy story even harder to get through. The narrator only did a voice change for Hektor Sambianco, and that was poorly done IMO. (Thankfully, it looks like the switch back to the original narrator for Books 3 and 4.)

The story itself was a let down compared to the first book. It was clear that the authors were diving deep into the world they created, but they did so at the expense of the action and suspense that were hallmarks of the first book.

Poor narration and lengthy story

If you’re going to pick up narrating a series it might behoove you to listen to the first book and maintain the pronunciations and intonation style of the first narrator to help maintain flow. The dramatic change in style is painful to the point that I can’t even focus on the story.

Narrator ruined it for me.
