Fort Hall was the final wagon stop in 1835. The rest was traveled by foot or horseback into the reaches of the Oregon Territory, although more and more of the trail was opening up for the immigrants that had to find their way to the sea. Like many Native Americans, the Shoshone were eventually decimated, then forcibly moved to reservations far from their home. Though the story, Trail of Tears, applied to many southeastern, mid-west and south- west tribes, the Shoshone, enduring the same forced march, nearly slipped into obscurity. But even in the most dire of circumstance, regardless of the era, love is like the lonely flower in the most barren desert. It springs, eternal, and somehow life goes on.
