On the night of the decade's worst blizzard, a local farm boy discovers the naked body of a beautiful young woman in the snow. Seventeen years later, the Virgin of Small Plains has become a local myth. Strange miracles have visited those who faithfully tend to her grave, and Small Plains becomes a haven for those hoping the Virgin will cure them. But soon strange and sinister events unfold.

What really happened 17 years ago? And why are some of the town's leading citizens so determined that the truth remain buried?

I liked it all. It was a great audio book and it’s been awhile since I have enjoyed one. So much that this is my first ever review after 10 years of listening.

Looking back, I almost stopped reading by end of the first chapter. The story seemed to drag along so slowly at the beginning that I was tempted to skip ahead to see if it got better. I am glad that I stuck with it though. The suspense and unanswered questions finally grab you and the ending makes you feel that justice was served and the good guys came out on top...even made you think that a small town in Kansas might be a good place to live.

Effectively keeps you guessing wrong

Wow, didn’t expect this story to be what it was. Intricately weaved into a twisted mystery/suspense. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Would recommend.

Excellent

The murder mystery pulled me in at the start, and kept me from putting it down when the cheesy , starry-eyed, bodice-ripping scenes (which were not even well written) sorely tempted me to toss it aside. The novel would have been great without them , and they detracted from the overall effect. Yes, the relationship between Abby and Mitch is integral to the story, but this was a case where less would have been more, and all of the mooning and descriptions of Mitch's broad shoulders tapering down to his narrow waist disgusted me. So unnecessary, when the plot was so exciting and kept me guessing until the very end!

Main plot was great, but...

This was such a well written storyline. You were always guessing until the end of who actually was the virgin and who killed her great storyline great characters and the narration was fabulous

Keeps you on the edge of your seat of who done it
