By the author of the New York Times-bestselling Labyrinth, a story of two lives touched by war and transformed by courage.

In the winter of 1928, still seeking some kind of resolution to the horrors of World War I, Freddie is traveling through the beautiful but forbidding French Pyrenees. During a snowstorm, his car spins off the mountain road. Dazed, he stumbles through the woods, emerging in a tiny village, where he finds an inn to wait out the blizzard. There he meets Fabrissa, a lovely young woman also mourning a lost generation.

Over the course of one night, Fabrissa and Freddie share their stories. By the time dawn breaks, Freddie will have unearthed a tragic, centuries-old mystery, and discovered his own role in the life of this remote town.

Great gothic ghost story. Atmospheric and relatable if you ever lost someone dear to you.

Loved it

Kate Mosse is one of my favorite authors, and this story for some reason "haunts" me. I love how her descriptive writing sets and carries the mood of the story. You feel the cold and how it mirrors Freddie's feelings of hopelessness & loss. While you know the story's destination, the journey is what captivates. If you want blood, guts & gore in your ghost story, this isn't for you. But if you like the old style ghost story that takes place as much in the mind as in the surroundings, The Winter Ghosts might be just your cup of tea. And not to forget, kudos to Julian Rhind-Tutt for a superb narration.

My Kind of Ghost Story!

A quiet ghost/love story elegantly told by a man stepping out of the shadow of sorrow into the sunshine of hope. It has been beautifully written by Kate Mosse and perfectly narrated by Julian Rhind-Tutt, whose sensitive performance allows listeners to thoroughly enjoy the sweet sadness of the tale. The story is about grief and loss, but it is no way gloomy. On the contrary, listening to it is an experience akin to viewing a beautiful winter scene through the window of a cozy, warm room. Sheer pleasure.

Delightful Listen

Excellent story based on historical facts about the Cathar persecutions in the MiddleAges. Narrator has perfect voice to convey the plot with a sense of mystery & dignity.

Haunting Tale

Despite the music in between chapters, which was incredibly annoying, the narration was fantastic and kept me listening. Even though small parts of the plot were a little predictable, it did not distract from the enjoyment, rather it added to the engagement because it felt more as if you were part of that fourth wall, hoping to scream out to the protagonist of what was happening. It was fun to be in on the secret. I guess you could say I can’t say more without giving away elements of it - no spoilers. The historical details blended in by the author is why she is hands-down one of my favorites!

Intriguing story
