Bloomsbury presents The Wombles by Elisabeth Beresford, read by Bernard Cribbins.

Classic and much loved characters are brought to life in the complete and unabridged audio edition of The Wombles, read by Bernard Cribbins, the original voice of the Wombles.

The Wombles is the first ever Wombles book and introduces the stern but kindly Great Uncle Bulgaria; Orinoco, who is particularly fond of his food and a subsequent forty winks; general handyman extraordinaire Tobermory, who can turn almost anything that the Wombles retrieve from Wimbledon Common into something useful; Madame Cholet, who cooks the most delicious and natural foods to keep the Wombles happy and contented; and last but not least, Bungo, one of the youngest and cheekiest Wombles of all, who has much to learn and is due to venture out on to the Common on his own for the very first time . . .

Would you consider the audio edition of The Wombles to be better than the print version?

I wouldn't say one version is better than another, but Bernard Cribbins does a great job narrating, and we can listen as a family and enjoy the book together (one of the things we love about audio books in general).

What other book might you compare The Wombles to and why?

The story reminded us of a combination of The Wind in the Willows, The Borrowers, A Bear Called Paddington, the hobbits from Tolkien, and Fraggle Rock

Any additional comments?

We thought this story was just adorable. We did laugh out loud several times. We'd like to hear more of the Wombles books, especially if they're narrated by Bernard Cribbins, for it's nice to have the continuity in a series.
