The eighth book in Laura Ingalls Wilder's treasured Little House series, and the recipient of a Newbery Honor.

Fifteen-year-old Laura lives apart from her family for the first time, teaching school in a claim shanty twelve miles from home. She is very homesick, but she knows that her earnings can help pay for her sister Mary's tuition at the college for the blind. Only one thing gets her through the lonely weeks—every weekend, Almanzo Wilder arrives at the school to take Laura home for a visit. Friendship soon turns to love for Laura and Almanzo.

The nine Little House books are inspired by Laura's own childhood and have been cherished by generations of readers as both a unique glimpse into America's frontier history and as heartwarming, unforgettable stories.

My only criticism of this audio book is the narration. Jones is good as a reader. She also seems to be tone deaf and often sings Pa’s and Laura’s songs. It is reminiscent of fingernails on chalkboards.

Wonderful story

I have read and read and re-read LIW 's books over and over since I was a little girl. I knew the stories by heart before the TV show was ever made. I suffered watching it with my family trying to not correct the storylines🙊🙉🙈 These Happy Golden Years will always be one of my favorites. Cherry Jones is a perfect voice for my Cherished (old friends) the Ingalls /Wilder family she even sings some of the songs that must have meant so much to Laura to add her Pa's songs to her books. I only miss Garth Williams' illustrations. I wish there was a PDF for people who may not have the real books . Thank You for having the whole series available

Its always bitter sweet ending this book

I grew up with these books and so enjoy closing my eyes and listening to the audible books. My complaint though is of Cherry Jones’ singing. I love music but all the numerous flat notes Cherry Jones hits is painful to listen to and really takes away from the book as she sings on so many occasions thru this book - more than the others. It’s painful and disruptive.
