The Best of George MacDonald

Of all the Macdonald books I’ve read, this was my favorite by far. There were many times when my eyes welled up with tears listening to the novel. It is a novel about groping in the darkness and finding the light. It is a novel of infinite hope. It is a novel of gracious love planting seeds of hope in others. George MacDonald is truly a man of God capable of enlightening his readers with the true Gospel.

Hauntingly Beautiful

This is one of MacDonald’s more introspective works. The plot is slow moving and there are several sermons from the curate. But through this amazing story we see the spiritual coming of age of a true seeker. Simply beautiful! This story gave me so much to reflect upon. If you love George MacDonald’s works for their theological boundary pushing and provocative Christian themes, this is a must read. I enjoyed the narration also. Very well done all around. I hope to see more of MacDonald’s realistic novels brought to life like this one.
