My decisions haunt me—just like the ghosts I see.

I’ve stayed away from Guntersville, Alabama, since leaving for college. Not because I stopped loving my family or my small-town friends. I never did. I left because something about this place sharpens the voices in my head and the shadows that slip into my peripheral vision.

Here, the boundary between the living and the dead feels thin. Fragile. Too easy to cross. Coming home means facing a nightmare I never expected: the murder of my high school best friend. Her death forces me to confront the cost of my ambition—how my drive to become the most successful defense attorney in the South pulled me away from the people who mattered most.

Then a near-fatal accident lands me in the hospital, and whatever strange inheritance runs in my blood surges to the surface. The visions grow stronger. The presence of the dead becomes impossible to ignore.

For the record, my abilities terrify me. There’s no guidebook, no control—only fear, doubt, and the constant worry that I’m losing my grip on reality.

But my friend’s young son is missing, and the truth behind her murder is darker than anyone wants to admit. I may be ashamed of what I am. I may not understand it. But I’m the only one who can finish this.

Because some ghosts don’t want justice. And some won’t stay silent until they get it.

If you've ever read the Fever series, you'll be used to the vacuous, selfish southern bell storyline. The anti-hero. The cute curse words. It is a sweet little story that shows the value of family and home, while also giving a true depiction of how family and home can annoy anyone. I didn't like April. At all. But I loved the real feeling of the book! The narrator did an amazing job of bringing each character to life and making them believable!

It's good
