The author tells the story as told to him of Anne Hobbs, a woman who went to Alaska in the 1920s to teach, but who had trouble due to her kindness to the Indians there.

Would you consider the audio edition of Tisha to be better than the print version?

Enjoyed listening to the audio version while I was painting! Really made the time fly by!

Any additional comments?

The narrator did an excellent job portraying all of the different characters. Especially the young children of various ethnicities.

Next best thing to visiting Alaska in person!

This reminded me of Anne of Green Gables but the Alaska version. I was riveted and routing for Anne, Chuck, lil’ Ethel, and Fred. Inspiring story of grit on the last frontier. An insightful look at racism in Alaska in the 1920’s.

Anne of Chicken Alaska

This fascinating look at wilderness Alaska in the early 20th century from the viewpoint of a not-yet 20 year old teacher shows the casual but inflexible discrimination by whites of any class against those of any color not perceived as white, including Indian, Alaskan (Inuit, etc., somewhat distinguished against other Indian tribes within the narrative) and black as well as any mixture of races--"breeds." It also shows the "can do" attitude prevailing and the need to import even the most basic items that could not be wrought from nature. Narrator [AUDIO!] Caroline McLaughlin's voice is perfect for the first person account, incorporating well-done vocalizations of other characters as well. With all the elements of a romance novel in a western context (northwestern, to be exact), this is actually the biography of a real woman.

I've read this story three times now, and each time is like the first. Not the best narrator reading it, but worth the read for sure.

One of my all time favorite books.
