To Dance with the White Dog is Terry Kay's stunning fourth novel, a moving story about an old man's final rite of passage, about family ties and the universal experience of grieving for a lost love. At the heart of the book is a mysterious white dog that appears after Sam Peek's beloved wife has died, and that remains with him until just before his own death. Stray dog or ghost dog? To Sam Peek, the dog is a guardian angel who brings to him the healing power of comfort.

To Dance with the White Dog was made into a CBS Hallmark Hall of Fame movie, starring Jessica Tandy and Hume Cronyn. When it aired on 3 December 1993 it was the highest rated television movie of the season. In 1991, Terry Kay was named Outstanding Author of the Year by the Southeastern Library Association for White Dog, and the book was nominated for the American Booksellers Book of the Year in 1992.

What a truly beautiful love story! Folks from simpler, gentler times knew how to enjoy living even after the parting if dear family members.

A true love story. This superb author based this story on his parents' lifetime love and his father's grief at the loss of his wife. Says the author, "There really was a white dog."

Absolutely wonderful.

This short, moving book captures a phase of life we all must experience. In a story redolent of the hill country, with the help of an animal beloved by so many, Terry Kay makes the trek through our inevitable end times more magical, less dreadful.

That is an accomplishment.

Godspeed you, Terry, and thanks for sharing these words and the way.

To dance, perchance to dream

Such a great story. People judge elders, not knowing that what the elders see may really be real. If only everyone could live the kind of life of the main couple lived, shared the kind of love they shared and have the kind of hope the white dog brings.
