Good story

The narrator made every character sound like they were seducing people non stop until the last few chapters. Although it may have been fitting for one of the characters, it was not for the Lord.

Poor reading

I vaguely remember reading this when it first came out in paperback, but barely. Mostly I remembered that this was the last Ravenloft (no "Covenant" in the titles at the time) novel I remember trying to read.
The author only ever wrote this one novel. She was mostly a game designer, who contributed to various gaming supplements.
I cannot recommend enduring this tedious novel. It seems to take forever to get anywhere, and does very little beyond attempting to establish an atmosphere that tries to simulate Gothic Romance/Horror, while remaining PG.
Christine Williams does the best she can with the material provided, but honestly, you can't polish a bowel movement.
Update: I gave up after the half-way point. It was just too darned painful.
