The novel's prose is fast paced and engaging . . . Stockwin's considerable experience of the Navy shines through to provide informative and shrewd observations throughout. There is so much here for those who are fans of seafaring adventures, but also an excellently sustained sense of the history, politically and socially, of the period. Loved it. Well worth the read. I Normally prefer more action but found I was thoroughly engrossed.

A weak excuse for a book

At this stage in his life, Kidd displays lots of immature behavior, poor practical judgment, and seems generally to be a dumb-*as. Not much ocean time and the author occasionally rescues Kidd from his stupidity with some daring-do. Getting ready to stop reading these books.

Expected more

Too much land not enough sea action. Least enjoyed of the Captain Kid series. Somewhat disappointed.
