When Torchwood track an energy surge to a Cardiff nightclub, the team finds the police are already at the scene. Five teenagers have died in a fight, and lying among the bodies is an extraterrestrial device. Next morning, they discover the corpse of a Weevil, its face and neck eaten away, seemingly by human teeth. And on the streets of Cardiff, an ordinary woman with an extraordinary hunger is attacking people and eating her victims. The job of a lifetime it might be, but working for Torchwood is putting big strains on Gwen's relationship with Rhys. While she decides to spice up their love life with the aid of alien technology, Rhys decides it's time to sort himself out - better music, healthier food, lose some weight. Luckily, a friend has mentioned Doctor Scotus's weight-loss clinic... Started reading on my Kindle on 5/29. Switched to audiobook 7/10 (read by Burn Gorman, a.k.a., Dr. Owen Harper). The audiobook was abridged, so it left out all of the angsty relationship stuff between Gwen and Rhys, which was why I wasn't enjoying the book---because the show had already progressed their relationship FAR past the point it's at in this book. As far as the mystery/alien plot---predictable.

This is a quick, entertaining Torchwood story that I believe is an abridged version of the actual book by Andy Lane. I'm not really a fan of abridged versions, but I thought I was getting a radio episode of Torchwood with the actual cast members when (Dramatized) was listed in the title. It's not, it's just Burn Gorman (Owen) reading a story that's mostly about Gwen and Rhys with smatterings of the other Torchwood team members.

Speaking of smatterings, this story is fairly bloody with a touch here and there of gore. Burn does a good, paced reading of the text but doesn't venture into the various accents of the diverse cast. All dialogue is spoken with a British pronunciation even though I was hoping to hear American and Welsh.

All in all, if you're a fan of Torchwood, you should like this book.

Not Dramatized As Listed! (Still a decent listen)

This was a fantastic story! I especially loved Burn Gorman as narrator, his voice kept me engaged in the story and brought the story to life with excellent imagery. I highly recommend!

Fantastic!

Who doesn’t want to lose weight? A doctor discovers a miracle weight loss treatment, but it soon goes sideways. There are side effects. Torchwood becomes involved, but they can’t save everybody...

Oddly, despite the horror, this story struck me as particularly fun. I feel like steak tonight.

It is personal for the Torchwood team this time!

The charactars are spot on, the interaction is fantastic, the plot is great, the writing is brilliant. Everything flows like you are listening to an episode of Torchwood. Only the show would NEVER have put this on the air. It's gory. Really gory. Some of the descriptions make you want to.... just keep a bucket close. People eat their own limbs while their still attached, and eat other people too. If you can get past the gore though, this is pure torchwood at it's finest.

An extended episode.
