"Totem and Taboo: Resemblances Between the Mental Lives of Savages and Neurotics" is a book by Sigmund Freud, published in German in 1913.

It is a collection of four essays first published in the journal "Imago" (1912-13), employing the application of psychoanalysis to the fields of archaeology, anthropology, and the study of religion.

The four essays are entitled: "The Horror of Incest"; "Taboo and Emotional Ambivalence"; "Animism, Magic and the Omnipotence of Thoughts" and "The Return of Totemism in Childhood".©2017 SAGA Egmont (P)2017 SAGA Egmont

This is a fascinating little gem. Freud gives us some clever insights into the psychological foundations of certain myths and taboos. I also find it interesting because that’s usually more the realm of Jung. This book is like a solid bridge between the two of them.

The recording itself could be better. It sounds like someone did it at home in their bedroom. While it’s not a professional sounding, studio recording, the content is superb and historically significant.

The quality of the recording is bad. The microphone used is very poor. You can hear really loud the ambience where it was recorded. A lot of edits with different ambience room tones is annoying and distracting. The reading is completely flat without intention or inner action. Almost as if the reader is not even paying attention of what she says. This makes a not so enjoyable book, even if the book is good.

Very bad recording
