TRAGEDY AND HOPE, unabridged and uncensored, shows the years 1895-1950 as a period of transition from the world dominated by Europe in the nineteenth century to the world of three blocs in the twentieth century. With clarity, perspective, and cumulative impact, Professor Quigley examines the nature of that transition through two world wars and a worldwide economic depression. As an interpretative historian, he tries to show each event in the full complexity of its historical context. The result is a unique work, notable in several ways. It gives a picture of the world in terms of the influence of different cultures and outlooks upon each other; it shows, more completely than in any similar work, the influence of science and technology on human life; and it explains, with unprecedented clarity, how the intricate financial and commercial patterns of the West prior to 1914 influenced the development of today’s world.

I’ve been waiting years for this book to be released in audio—and it was absolutely worth it. The text itself is dense and demanding, but the audiobook truly brings it to life. The narrator strikes the perfect pace, allowing time to absorb the many historical figures, events, and complex ideas without feeling rushed.
Hearing it performed in a clear, natural voice makes an already powerful work even more engaging and accessible. Listening alongside reading transformed the experience for me.
After finishing it, I genuinely feel like I’ve earned a degree in history. I gained a deep understanding of global power blocs, banking systems, and the intricate ways economies interact across nations and cultures. This audiobook doesn’t just inform—it educates on a whole new level.

finally, the audiobook!

I just ordered a reprint of the book for $38 and received it in the mail 2 days ago. I have been keeping an eye out for this to come to Audible for a few years. What are the chances I got both of my wishes during the same month?

Mike Sullivan did an excellent job. The material is dense and complicated at times but he made it very accessible. I'll be looking for his other work.

If you finally want to understand where conspiracy theories come from, specifically about who's in control of the world? This is a great place to start. Prof Quigley spells it all out for you. Remember; it's a big club and you are not in it.
