In this powerful essay, the mother of Trayvon Martin shares her grief, reflections, anger, and hope in the wake of a single unforgivable moment that catalyzed the Black Lives Matter movement.

Ten years after the tragic killing of her seventeen-year-old son, Trayvon Martin, Sybrina Fulton has become both the unyielding matriarch of a national conversation and one of the most incredible activators of change in our time. While grappling with the ongoing process of making sense of her grief, anger, and cherished memories, she fights every day for justice.

In this moving essay, Sybrina imparts to this generation and the next the lessons and wisdom she’s gained in the past ten years - about life, love, and loss; about bad faith; about what changes have and have not occurred; and about the power of her own voice in the gathering storm of a profoundly divided country. Above all, Sybrina knows what it takes to keep moving forward.

Critic reviews

"This audiobook may be short, but not a word is wasted.… Fulton is clear in her view that her son was stalked and killed out of malice, his killer protected by a system prejudiced toward Black children.… Fulton's voice is direct and unflinching. As she says, 'I decided to be a force for change.' She is doing so not just for Trayvon, but for all children of color. The impact of Fulton's words and voice is undeniable.”AudioFile Magazine

“This year, Fulton wrote Trayvon: Ten Years Later to provide insight into the work done to protect her son’s legacy, and how she turns pain into purpose.”—NPR’s Here and Now

“While Trayvon’s death sparked a nationwide movement that continues to this day, Fulton still deals with her raw emotions, 10 years later. She has written an essay, titled Trayvon: Ten Years Later, that is available on Amazon.”—People.com

This is a hearfelt essay from the mother of Trayvon, the young man whose killer was acquitted by the "Stand Your Ground" law. Sybrina Fulton pours her heart out about the tragedy and aftermath and terrible things she has had to endure. A voice of calm and reason in trying times, trying to adjust to modern day tragedies.
