About the Creator

Robert Louis Stevenson was born November 13, 1850 in Edinburgh, Scotland. Stevenson was sickly as a child, making school attendance difficult. When not being tutored at home, he spent his time reading and writing stories. While at Edinburgh University, he rejected his father’s wish that he become an engineer, declared himself an atheist, began wearing bohemian clothing, and embarked upon a writing career. As a poet and novelist, he achieved fame for stories that have delighted fans for over a century in print, on the stage, and in film. In audio, he is best known for the highly acclaimed and full-cast recordings of Treasure Island and The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and also for the popularity of Kidnapped, Black Arrow, and South Sea Tales. He died December 3, 1894 in Vailima, Samoa.

Some of accents hard to understand. When you have to concentrate to understand dialogue, you lose the pleasure of an audiobook.

It's a good dramatization, overall. However, if only audiobooks could be subtitled - let the irony of that statement sink in a moment. :) In all seriousness, though, it was difficult to understand the characters' words from time to time. It was also a little confusing about what was going on in the story. Often radio drama dialogue will include a sort of cheesy explanation of what the character is doing or seeing - this audio drama has minimal of that. The upside is the omission of awkward dialogue, the downside is it can be confusing to understand what is happening. A recommendation to Audible: break up the story into chapters. There are odd pauses in the performance that seem intended for chapter breaks - so why not put them in? Also, it helps for the times you zone out while listening and want to start the section over.
