Kent’s books have great depth and spirituality.

This book in particular had valuable life lessons taught through the intricately woven story. I highly recommend starting from the beginning of the series and reading them all.

Best is series...to date.

I give this Cork O'Connor book my "best story in a series" award. It was worth the wait....and left me wanting to turn another page. The book stands alone (so if it is your first William Kent Krueger read, you won't be left wondering about references to earlier books.) But Krueger only provides O'Connor family background when background is essential (so if you have, like me, read all of the others in the series, you won't get bored by the repetition.) The Ojibwa mystic tradition is interestingly presented and makes me want to learn more; the beauty and wildness of northern Minnesota is drawn with a brilliant word palette reminding me of personal soul-searching times spent paddling the Boundary Waters and walking the shores of Lake Gichigami. "The opposite of love is not hate but fear."

Great story

Second only to Iron Lake. Lots of good ones in between though. Unfortunately only two Books left in this series.

More plot twists and connections between suspects than ever before! Great read, and insightful as always. “kill to protect the things you love”

Best One Yet!

This story was woven with such grace.

All the way through, I liked all the characters so much that I didn't think any of them could have been the bad guy. Well, the Sheriff was nasty enough that I hoped for his downfall.

But again, it was full of grace and love, peppered with enough history, violence, and love that it was a believable human story.

Highly recommend!
