Autumn has arrived, with crisp, cold mornings, dew on the grass, and hedgerows full of blackberries...

When budding garden sleuth Poppy is invited to a party in a beautiful orangery, the last thing she expects is to witness a lethal wasp attack! As authorities investigate the possibility of murder, Poppy is horrified when local handyman Joe Fabbri, her friend and mentor, becomes the main suspect. Determined to prove Joe's innocence, Poppy sets out to solve the case - with help from her "mad scientist" neighbour, his new robotic invention, and a particularly stinky mushroom!

Meanwhile, Poppy is also learning that gardening isn't just sunshine and roses. As she grapples with wild wind, heavy rain, and unpleasant autumn chores, she wonders if she's bitten off more than she can chew. With limited horticultural experience and a long winter ahead, can she really make a success of the cottage garden nursery that she's inherited?

As Oren, the talkative ginger cat, lends a paw, and crime author Nick Forrest helps her dig for clues, Poppy makes a startling discovery: Could there be a link between the murder victim and her long-lost father? Would solving this case also give her answers to the biggest mystery from her past?

Trowel and Error (English Cottage Garden #4), my twenty-first read/listen from author H.Y. Hanna & the fourth book in her new English Cottage Garden Series. An enjoyable cozy mystery. I love the narrator’s British accent; I was impressed and enjoyed the vocal variety & inflections of narrator Pearl Hewitt, especially her oh-so-cute animal sounds & really enjoyed the read. Cozy Mystery/romance, captivating primary character, what other blurbs can I use to describe these books? Oh well, buy the book, read the books, get into a good author and some good characters as I have. “I received a free Audible copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Another well-written story from a good author

Hy Hanna has does it again! Loved catching back up with Poppy,Oren, Bertie, and Nick.
In this story Poppy was tricked into attending a function with her sketchy cousin only to stumble across a body. I loved the dynamic between Nick and Poppy and thoroughly enjoyed reading about Poppy's endeavor to get Oren to do something he does not want to do.
As always Pearl Hewitt does a fantastic job narrating the story. Loved it so much in fact I listened to it twice!
*Disclaimer*
I was given a copy of this book for free by the author. The above opinion expressed is my own.

Great cozy read

The regular characters are so endearing and quirky. Poppy is settling into the Hollyhock College and Nursery with the help of her neighbors. I really want her to , and feel drawn into the story as if she is someone I know and care about. What fun!
I will read another one soon.

Delightful

I absolutely love the beauty, warmth, mystery and fun these stories about Poppy, Oren and all the other people and dog ( Einstein) that gives me a place to go. I can see the people, the gardens, and feel the love they have for each other. I am happy she found out who her father wasn't. How much fun to have a new character like Clara!!! Anxious to see if Nell and Clara will be friends. I'm thrilled and that Bernie invented a yummy flavor for Orens cat food. Also his amazing mushroom remedies!! Can't wait to read book # 5!!
And as always... Pearl Hewitt is the BEST narrator I've ever heard!!!
THANK YOU! PLEASE NEVER STOP WRITING!!!!

I've read and listened to each of the books in this series as they've been released. I am a fan of English village mysteries, and this series is my current favorite of the cozy genre. Poppy is an appealing protagonist. She is young, and inexperienced, but she has good values, and she follows her ambition to restore the garden and nursery she inherited with hard work and a willingness to learn. I like that she doesn't think she is better or smarter than the police, in general. She trusts the intelligence and experience of others, and shares what she learns of potential evidence.

The murder plots in this series are plausible, relative to the genre. There are enough red herrings to keep me, as a reader, engaged in the plot. For me, however, the main attraction of the series is the setting, the humor, and the author's warmth toward the quirky, mainstay characters. All in all, another delightful escape.
