A life hangs in the balance… A king held for ransom, a country under thumb, clans at one another’s throats. Malcolm of clan MacKintosh has enough to worry about without finding a mysterious lass sleeping on the side of his road. He tries to help her — in his overbearing, arrogant way — and winds up flat on his back. God’s blood, who is this woman…and why does she captivate him so?

And only she can tip the scales.

The fortune-teller said something about saving a life, then zapped Alethia Goodsky back to fifteenth-century Scotland — a land bristling with broadswords and intrigue. Alethia is no damsel in distress, though, even if brawny, blue-eyed Malcolm has sworn to protect her. With her wits and special abilities, she races to solve the gypsy’s mystery and protect those she’s come to love. The stakes climb higher and enemies close in, forcing Alethia to choose between finding her way home…and staying true to her Highlander.

good story but the Narrator Sucked. I couldn't get into story because of her voice. Sorry!!!!

Narration

While the story is alright, at times the narration grated on my nerves. The sections voiced for characters, with accents were decently done, the sections voiced for story narration had an oddly monotonous prosody in which nearly every phrase ended with a predictable high pitch to falling pitch. I would not get another book with this narrator.

Irritating narrator

By far the worst narrator in the history of audiobooks. Her voice and rhythm made me feel like Siri was trying desperately to read the pages, but had a head cold, and never made it past a second grade reading level. Please spare yourself and grab the paperback or ebook.

This was definitely a book to hear over the weekend. at times it did go slow but overall a good read. consider this a love story with minimum sex scenes. it had funny parts and cute parts. Definitely for teens and up.

I enjoy romance time travel novels as a break from my usual choice of non fiction or mystery novels. However, I am very selective and try to stay away from the formula type writing that seems to dominate this category...helpless whining female meets big handsome overbearing alpha male, female jumps to conclusions when she overhears conversation, runs away, gets in trouble and then is rescued by alpha male. The summary for this book seemed to offer more, a rational female that could think and defend herself. For the most part the author delivered only falling into the "romance formula" toward the end. The biggest problem I had was with the narrator. When I first heard the voice, I thought something was wrong with my iPod. Her voice has a severe nasal accent and she reads the narrative parts of the story as if following the tempo of a musical measure, ta da, ta da, boom, ta da, ta da, boom. It was a little better when she was using voices for the characters, but not much. It was so annoying, I finally purchased the written version on my Kindle to finish the book. I will never purchase anything using Ms Dawe as a narrator again. Do yourself a favor, if you are interested in this book, only purchase it in written form not audio.

Interesting Story, Terrible Narrator
