Step aside Rambo, Sam Savage is in town!

For some men and women, the Vietnam War never ended....

Sky Marshal and former Army Ranger Sam Savage has just been handed his most dangerous assignment yet, and it has nothing to do with keeping a plane full of innocent people safe while cruising the friendly skies at 35,000 feet. This time, the sky marshal is on the trail of a New Viet Cong terrorist bent on wreaking havoc on a hotel full of American and Chinese businesspeople. Channy Linn is a new breed Viet Cong in that he’s not just leading a band of militant irregulars who are defending their home turf. They are instead a band of terrorists, a la Al Qaeda, bent on the violent destruction of anyone or anything that doesn’t follow their twisted ideology.

Along with his field asset, the beautiful but lethal Cindy, Sam will go on the hunt for Channy beginning in Bangkok, Thailand, making their way through Cambodia and finally into the jungles of Vietnam, where Sam will face one of the most terrifying ordeals of his life - being trapped inside the narrow underground tunnels of Cu Chi.

For listeners of Mark Dawson, Boyd Morrison, Lee Child, Russell Blake, and more, New York Times best-selling Thriller Award winning author Vincent Zandri invents yet another action/adventure character who most definitely should not be messed with. This novel promises to keep you glued to your seat for the entire journey.

I loved listening to Tunnel Rats. This was a straight through listen for me. An excellent thriller, Tunnel Rats was non-stop action without being overdone. Right from the start it had me hooked. The setting was great with some historical references to POW's of the Korean and Viet Nam wars. But getting to the story, it was exciting with well-developed characters, especially Sam Savage. Now his last name Savage might sound a little cliche but it works so well. As an air marshal/ CIA operative his character was strong but on the other hand subtle. I also liked the supporting characters which there were only a few but Cindy was good. The character Cinny however was sinister. This audiobook worked for me and at the end it mentioned some other books written by award winning author Vincent Zandri that I'd love to listen to.

Andrew B. Wehrlen's narration was spot on. He had the perfect voice for Sam Savage. He was Sam Savage. He had the right voice inflections which made it sound as if he were telling you a story from his own experience. I would definitely recommend this audiobook.

Tunnel Rats is a novella length, action packed story featuring Sam Savage, a former Army Ranger and current air marshal. He is temporarily assigned to follow and gather intel on Channy Linn, a suspected terrorist with a new and more homicidal version of the Viet Cong. Sam is joined by a covert operative named Cindy about whom he knows little and isn't certain that he can trust. Sam and Cindy quickly dive into action when they are captured by Channy, and the story takes all kinds of unexpected twist and turns before reaching a surprise conclusion. I really enjoyed the character of Sam because, although he has much training and skills, he recognizes that he doesn't have any experience with covert operations and willing defers to Cindy's superior knowledge in this area. He is all tough guy, but he is also very down to earth and realistic, and he has a bit of a sarcastic wit that kept this story from being too heavy.

Andrew B Wehrlen delivers an amazing performance. He has a deep, slightly raspy voice that was perfect for Sam's personality. His narration flowed so smoothly that I listened to this novella in one sitting without realizing so much time had passed. I would absolutely listen to another audiobook narrated by Wehrlen in the future.
