Book six in the Gabriel Hawke Novel series

Accident or homicide?

State trooper Gabriel Hawke is called to a vehicle on fire. When the steam and smoke clears, a charred body is slumped over the steering wheel.

The Muzzleloader Rendezvous has attendees from all over the Pacific Northwest, but it’s the local club that raises Hawke’s suspicions. With the president of the club dead, rumors abound. If the gossip and tracking won’t reveal the truth to who killed the strutting turkey, Hawke’s focus on the truth will.

Started to try to read the Kindle of book 7 that I bought, when I realized that I missed this one. So I got the audio while it was on sale. We've been American Rev War re-enactors and had considered doing French/Indian War, so we are familiar with the period personas and similar things in the story.
State Trooper Gabriel Hawke is a called, committed, and driven man working for the Oregon State Police primarily as in the Fish and Wildlife division but gets drawn into a homicide. The witnesses/suspects are all Blackpowder re-enactors, and this makes the interviews a bit interesting. The apparent victim is both liked and hated because of the ways he uses people, especially other men's wives. And then there's his auto sales business run by his mother. And his wife. And other illegal ventures. Makes for a very involved and twisty investigation filled with red herrings! Loved it!
Larry Gorman (narrator) gives a good performance in the sense that I felt that he WAS Trooper Hawke, but it was easy to differentiate other characters as well.

Excellent!
