An impending war will annihilate an empire and plunge the galaxy into millennia of darkness, in the first volume of an epic new space opera trilogy from Twilight Imperium

Millennia ago, the great empire of the Lazax brought the galaxy to heel, but now their ancient doctrine of strength and peace is failing. In the shadows, other factions begin to move against each other and their authoritarian masters. To rule themselves they must first tear down the crumbling regime they are forced to serve. When the Barony of Letnev, supplier of the Lazax's grand fleet, blockades a crucial wormhole to force the empire to listen to its demands, the spark of war is ignited and Zara Hail, an official for the Federation of Sol, is caught in the middle. As the threat of conflict continues to escalate, every faction must choose: Bend beneath the yoke of despots or break the chains that bind them.

This book focuses more on the epic scales and large stacks than the previous twilight, imperium books, The pacing was well done, and the character points of views are all enjoyable . I found myself eager to return to each character perspective to see what was going to happen next. The author does a great job of weaving together the complex factors that triggered the fall of the Empire. With each brewing disaster having its own character perspective. The characters are sympathetic and I found myself hoping for their success against impossible odds.

It well done account of the last days of the Empire

As a major fan of the Tactical boardgame this felt like a must read. The intimate details of the setting makes this an amazing read! Seeing the fall of this glorious empire first hand was intense. Fantastic fun.

Nice.

really enjoyed this book. I believe it was even better than the the prophecy of kings trilogy. Excited for the next one.

Great story in the Twilight Imperium universe

I'm mainly interested in the TTRPG ran under Genesys rather than the boardgame, and this novel is a well written journey into the universum. Compared to Warhammer 40k (because both series are a bi-product of a game and share the space opera setting) the writing is much better than most of what you can find in WH40k library. Characters are relatable and the story is gripping.
Beware: Don't go into it completely blind. The book's written for fans who know at least partially the species and setting of the (fictional) distant future of our galaxy.

Better than most space operas
