This is a story of Jelena Dokic's survival. How she survived as a refugee twice. How she survived on the tennis court to become world number four. But, most importantly, how she survived her father, Damir Dokic, the tennis dad from hell.

From war-torn Yugoslavia to Sydney to Wimbledon, she narrates her hellish ascent to becoming one of the best tennis players in the women’s game, the abuse she endured at the hands of her father and her heartbreaking fall from the top. Jelena never told anyone the full truth of what she went through until now, and her unbreakable spirit will inspire you.

Thank you for the story Jelena. It has been interesting listening to it. Its really good comparing this to the Agassi’s book and his struggle.

I could relate as a ex professional tennis player and not having a normal childhood . Traveling alone at a young age and the pressure I felt from my Dad. The abuse physical and mentally and the toll on your body training from a young age hour's per day causing injuries. Living out of a suit case and eat drink sleep tennis day after day

Great Book! Touching and sad

I loved how Jelena never gave up and just kept on going all the way even when she was depressed she held on to the love of her brother

The story

Loved her story and how she is strong after an upbringing like that. In a better environment she would have become a number 1, multi-slam winner. But even more admirable is how she handled herself and truly become bigger than many winners in the traditional sense. Real bravery.

A tale of true grit
