Sean Matheson has always been close to his nephew and niece. So when their Mum, his sister Nadine, who's brought them up on her own and is now dying of cancer, asks him to adopt them once she passes, he readily agrees without question. The kids want to be with him and he wants to step up and become their 'dad'.
But he's shocked by the reaction of his partner Brett. He knew Brett had never wanted kids but he's never told Sean why, and he did think Brett would make an exception given the circumstances. It puts a lot of pressure on their relationship because as far as Sean is concerned, his nephew and niece come before anybody else.
Then the sharpest blow comes from Sean's mother who is adamant that her gay son is not going to adopt her grandchildren.
The battle ends up in court and Sean is determined that he and his nephew and niece will become a family.
But will the judge agree?''
