The Blue Moon Café was unusually crowded for a Thursday night. The regulars lined the bar while newcomers sat at the quaint tables and burgundy clothed booths that surrounded the stage where Meg performed. She had been singing here on Thursday and Saturday nights for the past six months. Meg was called to the stage at nine o’clock by Brian, the restaurant owner. He was in his mid-forties, with boyish good looks and a dazzling smile. “Ladies and gentlemen, I’d like to introduce Miss Meg Edwards.” Then he added, “Meg, get up here and earn your supper!” The crowd clapped loudly as Meg smiled and picked up the microphone. “Thank you for that great introduction, Brian.” Meg answered sarcastically, while speaking into the microphone. The crowd laughed, and Meg winked at Brian who had moved to the back of the bar. He blew her a friendly kiss and sat at the bar with the others. Meg loved these folks. She loved seeing them every week. They’d become a part of her life over the past six months. As the soft music started to play and the lights dimmed, Meg closed her eyes and thought of him. It had become her weekly ritual. After all this time, she still loved him.
