Deaf child welfare officer Holly Summers 'hears' by her amazing talent for lip-reading , a talent the Portland, Oregon, police are very happy to call upon in difficult criminal investigations.

Using her unique gift to help the police investigate the recent disappearances of a string of women, little does Holly suspect that one of the enemies she's made in her day job - an occupational hazard - has vowed a supernatural vengeance on her, and the horror begins when the one person Holly is living for is targeted: her precious daughter....

Editorial reviews

Holly Summers is a child welfare officer in Portland, Oregon, who moonlights for the local police department using her skills as a lip-reader (she also happens to be deaf). But while Holly is helping the police investigate a rash of disappearances, an angry father from one of her cases puts a curse on her that threatens the one thing she loves most: her daughter. Performer Suzy James' tones are honeyed and smooth here, and she does an excellent job creating separate voices for each character. Fans of supernatural and psychological thrillers are likely to enjoy the ride.

finishing line is mind blowing, literally, and the irony is to here "audible hopes you've enjoyed this program". very ironic.

great book and lots of suspence, but...

this story took me by surprise by how well it was written and how the specific details were accurate and sincere. I had not anticipated getting so involved with the characters; so much so that at the very end I was left in shock... a must read/ listen!

major whoa!!!

The story was good. I did really like it...except for a certain section near the end. But it was kinda appropriate to the overall story. But I'll be hanged if that wasn't the most abrupt ending to a book that I've ever heard. And I don't know what I think of it...except that I'd have rather that it ended differently. But then, I'm not the one who did the writing....

I don't know what to think.

I expected better from this author. The summary led me to believe this would be a story with supernatural elements, and although they were touched upon, there was actually no supernatural meet in the story. The writing otherwise was pretty good, the characterization, the plot, the dialogue. The narrator really should have done some research into the Italian language because she pronounced The Italian words incorrectly. Otherwise she was good. The ending seemed anti-climactic to me and I felt the writer I was just going through the motions to get this book done to fulfill a contract. I can’t say I would recommend this book to fans of grandmaster 10

Underwhelming and the summary is out right misleading

This story has so many twists and turns, you can’t help but continue. Holly is a child welfare worker who also happens to be deaf. She reads lips and on occasion assists police with her tips and lip reading skills. After discovering a proposed murder for hire, Holly teams up with her police pal to get to the bottom of the proposed murder. Will the curse by an Indian tribal man be her demise? Wait until the very last page for a shocking end. You won’t see this coming!

Wait for it…….
